For some Americans the Olympics have always been important news. For the 2012 summer Olympics many watched news broadcasts of the opening ceremonies straight through to the closing ceremonies. Information about which athlete won what and what country held the most metals could be found circulating many social networks. For me, social networks was the only way I ever heard news about the Olympics. I hadn't even heard of the controversies surrounding the timing of broadcasts until this morning (which are highlighted in this article). Maybe I should start paying more attention to the world around me?
